"Joan"
Joan, a 60 year old woman, married for 40 years, called the Family Abuse hotline after her husband threatened her with violence for spending $20 over the money he had budgeted for groceries. He had always been very controlling but she had never really been frightened of him before. Our caseworker met with Joan and suggested she register for our Overcoming Powerlessness education group for women. Sometime later, she made a decision to separate from her husband. At that point, her husband agreed to go into our men's anger management group followed by ongoing individual counseling. Joan and her husband have since reunited and are continuing in both individual and marital counseling.
