Characters
Phil is cute. He’s popular. The girls flirt with him, the guys look up to him. But Phil is fairly aggressive and he picks on the less popular students. He’s not always respectful of his girlfriend, Jen. Sometimes he puts her down or grabs her inappropriately.
Jen is popular and outgoing. She has a fiery personality. She can handle it when her boyfriend, Phil, puts her down; at least that’s what she wants everyone else to think. But inside, she’s hurting and her reactions to Phil aren’t always appropriate; she often slaps him when he makes rude comments. Sometimes she also takes out her aggression on the less popular girls.

Debbie is the new girl at school. She’s confident and doesn’t feel pressure to fit in. When Debbie is accosted by Phil and his friends, she can defend herself. She also encourages other less popular students to stand up for themselves.
Andy is a bit of a by-stander. He often accompanies his friend, Phil, when he puts others down. But he also respects people who stand up for themselves. Andy is caught in the middle of a difficult social situation: he wants to be popular, like Phil, but he also doesn’t want to be disrespectful to others.
Ted is something of a bully. When his friend Phil starts to pick on others, Ted follows his lead and often takes the situation too far. He is controlling and manipulative towards his girlfriend, Christine. Ted believes that this is the way a relationship should be, since he sees his dad treat his mom the same way.
Christine is artsy. She’s a photographer. She likes to help people out and make things better. She tries to make things better for her boyfriend, Ted, and often defends his behavior. She is slowly learning that she needs to stand up for herself and not be pushed around by others.
Brian is a bit of a geek. He’s an easy target. Everyone picks on him, even the less confident students. This hurts Brian and sometimes makes him angry. If he is pushed too far, he could become angry enough that he could cause harm. But underneath it all, Brian doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He just wants to live his life. He’s respectful of those who respect him and takes a genuine interest in other people.
