College Financial Aid

JFSA awards need-based grants, interest free loans and scholarships for Jewish students in Greater Cleveland. Awards are available to both full and part-time students. Students are awarded up to a maximum of $4,000 per academic year in the form of loans and grants based on the total applicant pool, total need and total available funds.

 

To be eligible for consideration for aid, a family's income should not exceed $85,000 annually. Exceptions to this rule are made in unique circumstances. Funds are distributed each August for the fall term. Students can apply once a year.

 

Scholarships are available for fall distribution only. To receive an application for aid, information about eligibility guidelines or to find out more about specific scholarship criteria, contact Toby Bresky, JFSA Financial Aid Administrator at 216.378.3429.

 

A $35.00 non-refundable fee must accompany the application.

 

The Morris Abrams Award in International Relations
The Morris Abrams Award is open to Ph.D. candidates at graduate schools of International Affairs, Political Science or Journalism. The student must be nominated by their Department Head. This award is non-sectarian.

 

The Jack W. and Shirley Berger Scholarship
Awarded to scholastically superior high school seniors (minimum GPA 3.5) seeking a secular education who agree to take a course in comparative religion. The award is
renewable for additional years if a 3.0 GPA is maintained. Non-sectarian (Contact your high school guidance counselor for an application.)

 

The Sophie and Henry Billys Scholarship
Awarded to a full time student who may not qualify for academic scholarships and who
has overcome a major obstacle.

 

The Frank Joseph Garron Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to full-time graduate or undergraduate. (Tuition only.) Can be renewed in
competition with others.

 

The Eleanor Gerson Award
Awarded to needy students. Academic achievement and community involvement is considered.

 

The Eleanor Gerson Award for Graduate Students in the field of Social Work.

 

The Solomon and Jennie Hurvitz Scholarship
Awarded to scholastically superior, unmarried Jewish student attending a secular college in Ohio.

 

The Jaffe Scholarship
Awarded to a senior in high school who has demonstrated commitment to volunteerism in the Jewish and general communities.

 

The Mrs. Bert Keller Award
Awarded to a freshman or graduate student pursuing a career in medicine.

 
The Saltzman Scholarship

Undergraduate or graduate student focused on  specific career goal, preferably in the health care field.  Student should have sense of giving back to community.  Renewable.

 

The Irving I. Stone Support Foundation

Awarded to students attending Yeshiva University or approved Seminary/Yeshiva study in Israel.

 

The Stanley and Enid Rothenfeld Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a non-traditional needy Jewish student (min. 3.0 GPA).

 

The Howard S. Young Scholarship
Awarded to an academically superior student attending Case Western Reserve
University. An engineering major is preferable. (Can be renewed.)

 

The William Wortzman Family Education Fund

Financially disadvantage student, minimum 3.0 GPA.  Students seeking business/law degree preferred.

 

The Helen and Morris Zupnick Scholarship
Awarded to an Orthodox Jewish student with defined career goals and high academic
credentials.

 

Funds for awards come from the Saide and Maurice Friedman Fund and the Mortimer Weisberg Fund of the endowment fund of the Jewish Community Federation, the National Council of Jewish Women and previous students' loan repayments.
