Manager of Volunteer Services

Description

Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Development, provides leadership for planning, developing, maintaining, administering, and evaluating volunteer services for all agency departments. Acts as the agency's representative to volunteers and the general community at large.

-Coordinates a comprehensive agency-wide volunteer services program. Recruits, orients, supervises and evaluates all volunteers, paid drivers, on-call drivers and college summer interns. Identifies, writes and updates volunteer job duties/activities as required. Assigns volunteers to meet program needs appropriate to volunteer's skills, and interests.

-Responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives set forth for the volunteer services program. Conducts and/or serves on various committees related to the volunteer services program. Regularly communicates volunteer activities to agency staff, board and community. Creates and updates a volunteer handbook. Ensures that all CARF accreditation policies and procedures in the Volunteer Services program are maintained. Actively participates in all volunteer supported events. Conducts volunteer satisfaction surveys in order to ensure volunteers meet program objectives.

-Develops and maintains a database of all agency volunteers in order to track volunteer assignments and statistics (e.g. hours worked). Responsible for the upkeep of volunteer personnel files and preparation for yearly PASSPORT audits.

-Works closely with the Home Delivered Meals Coordinator to ensure that all meals are delivered on a timely basis and are in compliance with PASSPORT, WRAAA, and OPTIONS. Develops and implements twice yearly training for meal delivery training personnel.

-Serves as an agency liaison with local community groups to increase volunteer opportunities and aid in the development of in-kind donations to JFSA. Establishes and strengthens relationships with local area colleges. Works with local organizations (e.g. high schools, synagogues, businesses) to coordinate donations to the agency such as Ascentia Food Pantry, furniture clothing, food, etc; fulfills client's wishes needs. Represents JFSA locally on program, policy, and practice matters regarding volunteers including speaking, presenting, and writing on volunteer issues in the community as requested.

-Plans and manages the logistics of the annual volunteer recognition events. Coordinates agency volunteer of the year nomination and selection process; prepares event budgets; develops invitations and mailing lists; develops program agenda; and secures event speakers. Identifies and prepares nominations for local, state and federal volunteer awards.

-Assists with other related agency program events such as the Signature Event, Employee Fundraising Event, and the Jewish holiday observances and activities.

-Demonstrates awareness of, follows all safety policies and procedures, and adheres to all recommended safe work practices. Also contributes to the control of hazards in specified area of responsibility.

-Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned (e.g. acts as a substitute driver/dispatcher when required).

 

Skills

Educational/Training Requirements:

-Bachelor?s Degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications, HR, Social Services or a related field.

Professional level work experience may substitute for education requirements.

Experience:

-Minimum of three years of volunteer management experience in a non-profit setting including program development, budget and personnel responsibilities.

Experience working with adults with special needs, senior citizens and the Jewish community a plus.

Licenses/Certifications:

-Maintain both a valid Ohio Drivers License, and a driving record that meets JFSA's insurance company standards (e.g. less than 2 incidents over a 3 year period).

Maintain personal auto liability insurance at the level that the Agency and the insurance carrier require.

Must have a reliable personal automobile available on a daily basis.

Certification in Volunteer Management preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal skills in order to encourage program participation, build mutual trust and cooperation from volunteers, clients, staff, and the community-at-large.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

Ability to make decisions and solve problems effectively.

Intermediate computer skills: Word, Excel, Access, and Power point.

Knowledge of budget preparations and administration.

Knowledge of personnel management.

Excellent organizational skills; must be able to manage multiple priorities.
